Hockey Season Cancellation for 2020-2021

January 20th, 2021

Following the announcement of the Ligue Hockey Trente-Ouest (LHTO), we regretfully announce today that the 2020-2021 HMIP hockey season and all related activities are canceled due to the effects of Covid-19. It brings us great sadness to make this  announcement as like many of you, we were hopeful to be able to resume on-ice activities in the new year.

The decision to cancel this season was not taken lightly as it has significant ramifications for our association as well as the other MHAs part of the LHTO.

As previously communicated, the HMIP Board of Directors and registrar are working very hard to finalize all the season revenues/expenses. Once our budget is finalized, we will begin the process of offering final per player refund amounts that will vary based on the level played as well as payments made, and city subsidies received. Once ready, the refunds will be communicated via email and you will be provided with a cheque that can be either mailed or picked up to reduce administrative
costs associated to refunds. To further reduce costs, we will also have the option of providing a credit for the following season dues. If you choose a credit, we will provide a discount for the following season’s dues as you are reducing the costs to HMIP.

At this time, no action is required. We ask for your patience as we itemize the final financials and start the refund process.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely Thank our Board of Directors: Chris Thierry, Samuel Lafontaine, Rob Trickett but
particularly Lianne Ulin our VP of Operations, Flo Johnson our Treasurer,  Lynne Théorêt our registrar and Jean-Francois Allard our webmaster as they are putting countless hours ensuring that the process is done efficiently for all our members.
Much time and effort has gone into the 2020-2021 season from both an administrative and hockey perspective and I would like to Thank Rob for the coordination of the preseason / start of the season activities. It is frustrating not to be able to see the fruit of all the efforts made by many board members and volunteers this season but ultimately, we must ensure the safety of all our members and their families while following public health guidelines.

Lastly, thank you to our volunteers, as well as our members for your patience as we navigated through a season of uncertainty.

Stay safe,

Christina

FAQ:
Q: If the public health officials allow for a return to play at some time prior to June 2021, will HMIP resume its activities?
A: HMIP will not be able to resume a normal season as the league has cancelled its season, however, if we have access to ice we may offer Hockey sessions which would require a separate registration.

Q: When can I expect to get my refund / credit?
A: We don’t have an exact date as we are impacted by external costs and it is a time-consuming procedure to input all the information in the Hockey Canada Registry but we hope to have everyone refunded/credited by March 15th 2021.

Q: If I leave my refund with HMIP, what credit will I receive on my 2021-22 season dues?
A: We are in the process of evaluating the credit that we can offer but it would be between 15–35 $. We understand that it is not significant as it represents what HMIP would save in admin/bank fees.

Q: If I have more than one child registered at HMIP, can I elect different refund/credit options for each?
A: No, the choice must be the same for all children of the same family.
